HyperFund (later rebranded HyperVerse) was a $1.89 billion crypto Ponzi and pyramid scheme operated by Sam Lee from Dubai after fleeing Australia. The US DOJ charged Lee with conspiracy to commit securities fraud and wire fraud. The SEC also filed charges. The scheme promised guaranteed daily returns from non-existent crypto mining operations. Investors lost everything. Lee was later arrested. A textbook example of Dubai being used as a base for international crypto fraud.
